Macquarie Park Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan

A study is underway to assess flood behaviour and to develop a plan for reducing flood risks in the Macquarie Park area within the City of Ryde, Sydney. The focus of the study is the Mars Creek, Shrimptons Creek, Industrial Creek, Porters Creek and Lane Cove catchments.

The study is being overseen by the Macquarie Park Floodplain Risk Management Committee, which includes representatives from Council, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, the State Emergency Service and the local community.

Flood risks can be managed by modifying the way a flood behaves (e.g. constructing detention basins, enlarging drainage infrastructure, reducing the potential for culvert blockage), by modifying property on the floodplain (e.g. planning controls, voluntary purchase, voluntary house-raising), or by modifying people’s response to flooding (e.g. warning systems, evacuation planning, education).

Further information about the Macquarie Park Floodplain Risk Management Study can be obtained from the City of Ryde or by contacting at Bewsher Consulting.
