Double Bay Catchment Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan

A study is underway to develop a plan for reducing flood risks in the Double Bay Catchment within the Woollahra Municipal Council, Sydney. The study area extends from Cooper Park to Sydney Harbour and includes the Double Bay retail area.

The study is being overseen by Council’s Floodplain Management Committee, which includes representatives from Council, the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water, the State Emergency Service and the local community.

Flood risks can be managed by modifying the way a flood behaves (e.g. constructing detention basins, enlarging drainage infrastructure, reducing the potential for culvert blockage), by modifying property on the floodplain (e.g. planning controls, voluntary purchase, voluntary house-raising), or by modifying people’s response to flooding (e.g. warning systems, evacuation planning, education).

Further information about the Double Bay Catchment Floodplain Risk Management Study can be obtained by contacting at Bewsher Consulting.
